Word up EBS fam, just cos we feel like we've been neglecting you all a bit recently, here's an extra special sneak preview of an interview C.Monts hooked up for the latest issue of Bbarak magazine.

Brotherman X EBS

UK Foot Soldier

This young go-getter has been chilling in the chamber for a hot minute. Holding it down in the background, patiently honing his style, learning his trade. now the yoots all grown up. With his double EP being mastered as you read this..and his debut album and mixtape on the horizon things are truly on the up, and fast.
I linked Brotherman to talk future moves.

C.Monts: So tell us about Brotherman.

Well Brotherman is all about the conscious culture, bring the fresh UK sound. kinda cross over, mixing a little bit of everything. but always making sure it's about putting out good music. I'm from Hackney, London, but I'm based in Southampton right now, I have been for 5 years. I came down for university, doing film studies, I did it for two years then decided against it.

When did you get into Hip Hop?

I must have been about 15 or 16. but I was like the only kid into Hip Hop. People were into Drum & Bass and garage. I could run with it though. but I was always into Hip Hop. It wasn't until I heard UK Hip Hop that I considered writing and spiting my own bars. The rest is history! After a few months I recorded a little mixtape, all of the verses were like a year old. I was just on private thing really just a few tracks for myself and my mates, some how the mixtape got the guys at Silent Soundz and they got in touch saying they wanted to sign me!

You ever battled?

It's funny. One of my first verses was a battle rap..like a five page verse, real epic and that, pure battle lyrics. but I have never really gone down that route..you always battle on a bedroom level..but never on stage entering competitions or live battles.

Who you running with on a production level?

I have been recording with a few different people. Recently I have been in the studio with Jehst. He has been sorting me out some dope beats. I got a track with him too..it's probably gonna be on The Dark EP. Jehst is a safe guy. He was one of the first UK artists I heard. It's a real pleasure to be working with him. Jonny Simps is another guy who's been on the boards. his beats are tasty..and finally Sessions. his beats are a little off-key. but it's good to be doing something a bit different init!

So what releases you got coming out?

November my double A-side single drops. Mini Gorillas/ Bollox. Early next year I'm gonna drop the first half of my double EP. The Light EP, then a few months later The Dark EP. Then in the middle of next year I will drop the mixtape then late next year comes my album, working title: Forever Ending Story. next year’s gonna be busy!

You have been played a lot on BBC 1Xtra..how that come about?

The Silent Soundz guys passed my track; Heart of Dem to Skitz, one of the 1Xtra Dj's. it's a laid back track..real bashy vibes..right up Skitz's street..he liked it and played it nuf times!! since then MC Wreck has been playing it on Kiss FM London..it's a real buzz at the moment it's good

When was the last time you were in the studio?

Would be about two or three weeks ago..at Jehst''s place,

And what were you working on?

Some tunes for the double EP. A track called 'When', Jonny Simps production, it's an ill track! and another track called Slave Days.. it was a very productive day!

Who are you musical influences?

BIGGIE!! no one was better then notorious B.I.G in my eyes. You can see how people like Jay-z mimic his style and flows. I spent a lot of time listening to Biggie and he inspires me for sure.

What about non-musical influences?

I would have to say my Dad has been a positive influence on my life. And Muhammad Ali. Strong black men..good role models.

Nike or Adidas?

Adidas everytime bruvva!! I just copped some fresh creps! dope shell-toes.. Allstars, two different shoes!! Red on one foot blue blue on the other! OFFKEY!!

If you could any one character from Back To The Future 2, who would you be?

AHHH I like that question. I would definitely be Doc Brown. He knows his stuff. Coming up with all the maths equations and shit. You know he knows some crazy shit!! Doc Brown every fucking time!

You ever been to the Czech Republic?

Nah I aint ever been over there. I have heard all my friends that it's live. I wanna get out there do a show and how the Czech heads get down!!

Where can heads hear your stuff?

MYSPACE!! a lot of people slate it but I don't care what people say.. it works well for me! It’s a major network..global you get me! So hit me up on myspace. www.myspace.com/fatherman.

What does the future hold for Brotherman?

Music..big fucking tracks that can't be ignored. got the EP's and the album coming so the future is bright!

Any shouts?

Yeh man shout to my wife. my children, Keilam & Micah. Big Bobbarayle! all the Silent Soundz heads. Shouts to everyone listening to my shit..not even buying downloading it or what ever big up! Big shouts to Mr Shoeshotta.com

Nuff said I think! To sleep on this guy would be a foolish move. With names like Jehst lending a hand in the production department, Silent Soundz at the helm, street wise flows with cross over appeal, Brotherman is set to smash the scene. his tracks can be found on the world wide web until Hip Hop domination brings him to your town!
